The Bridges of Discovery experience invites you to explore the unseen threads linking science, nature, and community. Through hands-on activities, conversations, music, and shared curiosity, we’ll cross divides—connecting knowledge with wonder, people with purpose, and science with the soul of our shared natural world.

  • Take your pick of free activities on Hoboken’s public waterfront during this year’s City of Water Day, including kayaking and paddle boarding on the Hudson River at the Hoboken Cove, hands-on community science along the beach, birdwatching and fishing from the piers as well as tours of Hoboken’s storied waterfront, both from the land and water. Meet local artists, musicians and environmental organizations working to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on our region.

  • To honor Weequahic Lake's ecological & community importance, we will hold a water blessing ceremony featuring Indigenous representation alongside local African drummers. This gathering acknowledges both the Leni Lenape people who originally inhabited this land and the African American community's significant presence in the area; raise awareness about water conservation, climate resilience, and the lake's vital role in our ecosystem while inspiring collective action for environmental stewardship.

  • Enjoy a summer’s morning outdoors, where you, your family and friends can enjoy free activities on the Passaic Riverfront. Activities to experience: a community cleanup of the park and riverbanks, kayaking, fishing, petting animals, local artists creating, and learning how to prepare for flooding. Participants will get also get the chance to learn more about important initiatives like FloodShots and benefit from Clean Communities’ giveaways, Free Flood Testing kits, Learn to Swim lessons and music & food. Kayaking requires onsite written permission of parent or guardian for those under age 18.

  • Ke Aloha Outrigger will present a variety of family-oriented activities including a shoreline cleanup, outrigger canoe trips on the Hudson River, and a festival with crafts and activities for kids K-8 developed by the Polynesian Voyaging Society to educate them on climate change and the cultural connection humans have with the water told through the lens of Pacific Island culture.
