  • Come sail with us upon Jamaica Bay, NYCs largest open space. Experience the peace and serenity of sailing in and around the bay's salt marshes, where many bird and aquatic species thrive, such as diamondback terrapin turtles and cownose rays. Guests will be able to try their hand at sailing the boat if they wish, under the supervision of the captain. All ages. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Ahoy there matey. Yee a pirate or a poet or just a fellow spirit of the sea? Well then, come aboard No One's Ark, as the pirates for the planet spread their purpose-driven piracy along a poetic voyage through the waters of Newtown Creek. We'll be setting sail on long canoes and kayaks provided by our partners from the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse. Alongside poets and pirates, guests will learn about the history of the creek and ways to get involved in its cleanup!

  • The Jamaica Bay Festival is a free, fun, family event taking place in Brooklyn and Queens. The Festival celebrates those who share our vision to champion the spirit of the Jamaica Bay community, the unparalleled opportunities and the natural beauty of this urban tidal estuary. Participants can enjoy free kayaking, fishing, surfing, hiking, bird watching, art, nature and more.

  • Join Big Reuse and the LaGaurdia School of Environmental Science for a street tree care event adjacent to the Dutch Kills Tributary of the Newtown Creek. Healthy trees and soil are essential for reducing gliding during wet-weather events, reducing the Urban Heat Island Effect, and improving urban air quality. Join us for this special City of Water Day tree care event in the Newtown Creek watershed.

  • Have you ever wondered what is in Newtown Creek or wanted to explore the water in a kayak? Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, Newtown Creek Alliance, and North Brooklyn Community Boathouse will give you the opportunity to enjoy free kayaking (must be at least 4' 10" tall and with an adult), hands-on environmental education, and a climate resiliency walk.

  • On Saturday, July 12, Hunters Point Library and Environmental Education Center will celebrate City of Water Day, a region-wide day organized by Waterfront Alliance and New York–New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP), to champion a climate-resilient New York and New Jersey harbor. There will be hands-on activities and giveaways; as well as inviting special guest, Jessica Ochoa Hendrix, CEO of Killer Snails, an immersive science experience game.

  • Celebrate City of Water Day by exploring some waterbirds in NYC! Meet at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and search the mudflats and ponds of Jamaica Bay (the NYC locale with the most recorded species of birds) to observe the many breeding species and migratory plovers and sandpipers that will already be headed south from their arctic breeding grounds. Learn the finer points of identifying these challenging species. Bring binoculars if you have them, plus shoes you don't mind getting muddy.
